The World's Most Evil Triangle
Mysterious disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle have been puzzling people for hundreds of years. Ships and aircraft have vanished in this area of the Atlantic Ocean without a trace. Despite ongoing research of the location, experts can't even explain what is going on. Here we dive deep into the most shocking stories, facts, and theories about the "Devil's Triangle".
1. Ellen Austin, 1881
On the way to New York from London, the 200-foot-long Ellen Austin came across another ship drifting around the Bermuda Triangle area. The captain of Ellen Austin and his crew climbed aboard the unidentified vessel only to find nothing out of place except for the lack of crew. His crewmen split up on each ship to sail together but after two days a squall separated the ships and the mystery boat vanished. After the storm, the captain found it once again floating adrift only this time, his crew members had all disappeared.
2. USS Cyclops, 1918
This tragic incident is said to involve the most lives lost in the history of the US Navy in a single event. With over 300 passengers and 10,800 tons of manganese ore on board, the USS Cyclops set sail on a calm day from Brazil to Baltimore. The only message signaled from the captain indicated no issues but after that, the ship was never seen or heard from again. No remains of the people or the ship have ever been found.
3. USS Scorpion, 1968
The USS Scorpion was a gigantic military submarine powered by nuclear energy. With about 100 crew members aboard, the impressive submarine somehow sunk on a calm day. The wreckage was found at the bottom of the sea but there’s not enough evidence to indicate what had happened.
4. Witchcraft, 1967
The Witchcraft was a luxurious yacht set out for a leisurely cruise to view Miami’s Christmas lights from the sea. A coastguard received a call from the captain proclaiming that their boat had been hit by something that left no damage. In about 20 minutes the coastguard reached the area only to find it completely deserted. The yacht was searched for over days and was never found.
5. Carroll A Deering, 1921
Carroll A Deering was found stuck on the rocks of Hattera Diamond Shoals off the coast of North Carolina. The crew along with all of their belongings and life rafts were missing. The investigation team never found them. The ship was dubbed “Ghost Ship of the Outer Banks” due to its passengers' mysterious disappearance.
6. Flight 19, 1945
Flight 19 included 5 aircraft with 27 men sent out on a training mission over the Bermuda Triangle only to vanish without a trace. There was no evidence to indicate what had happened to the disappearing pilots and their planes and they were never found. And it didn’t end there–– a rescue mission was sent out to find Flight 19 but instead, they also vanished and never returned.
7. USS Wasp, 1814
The USS Wasp served the Navy during the War of 1812, fighting in significant battles and destroying many ships. On one mysterious day in 1814, the powerful ship vanished in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle with over 100 men on board. No evidence has ever been uncovered to explain its disappearance.
8. The Sulphur Queen, 1963
Carrying sulfur on board, the 523-foot Sulphur Queen tanker set out across the ocean. The captain sent out one radio message to signify their location in the Triangle. After that signal, there was no SOS or any other report but the Queen disappeared. A couple of weeks later, pieces of raft, a life jacket, and an oar were washed up on shore in Florida and it was assumed that the ship likely caught on fire and burned at sea.
9. The Fishing Boat, 2015
A much more recent disappearance was a 19-foot fishing boat. Two teenage boys went on a fishing trip in the summer of 2015 and never returned. Thorough searches went on to find the missing boys but only their boat was found an entire year later off the shores of Bermuda.
10. Patriot, 1812
The daughter of the vice president of the United States was on board the Patriot at this time. The ship was on schedule and stocked to the brim with food and survival devices yet it still somehow vanished at sea. Theories suggest that the boat was overloaded and sank but is it coincidence that it happened in the Bermuda Triangle?
1. Unofficial Territory
Throughout history the Bermuda Triangle has never been a registered territory and it's not even shown on maps. We understand it as the area in the Atlantic Ocean between the coasts of Miami in Florida to Bermuda to San Juan in Puerto Rico. The three lands form a triangle if you were to draw lines connecting them.
2. Short But Mighty Storms
The Triangle takes up an area that experiences violent and unexpected storms quite frequently. The powerful storms dissipate quickly after they reach their peak. The climate here is not one to assume as it changes within a blink of an eye which is why reports of disappearances were never speculated until the fifties.
3. Compasses Have Never Worked
Ever since the first explorers set sail across the Triangle, compasses have never worked within the area. It's understandable how ships and planes could've steered off course before technology could correct the error. It's one of the only two places in the world that a compass points to true north rather than magnetic north.
4. Deepest Place On Earth
The area has a long history of disappearances and its unmeasurable depth could be why. Some of the deepest trenches on Earth are found within the Bermuda Triangle. Humans haven't been able to reach the bottom of these trenches therefore, it's possible some of those historic ships and planes are still down there.
5. The Lost City Of Atlantis
Theories suggest that the Triangle is where the lost city of Atlantis once was. The legend claims that the ancient city was powered by special energy crystals which could explain why navigation technology is affected in this area. Some people think the energy crystals are still in the ocean floor, altering the navigation of ships and planes above with their magnetic forces.
6. Alien Abduction Theories
Throughout history, the Triangle has been known for its high record of UFO sightings. Alien abduction is a theory many believe could be the explanation for the vanishings. Another theory suggests that the Bermuda Triangle is a portal to other planets in outer space.
7. The 1950s Speculations
Disappearances in the Triangle weren't wide spread news until the 50s. When researchers became aware of the mysterious incidents happening in the same area, they began to dig deeper. Speculation of the Bermuda Triangle have been researched and theorized ever since a few ships and aircraft went missing in that time period.
8. Named In 1964
The name "Bermuda Triangle" was given to this part of the Atlantic in 1964 after a writer wrote about it. Vincent Gaddis wrote an article in Pulp Magazine Argosy titled "The Deadly Bermuda Triangle" and the name stuck. He claimed that all of the peculiar disappearances were a part of a pattern of unexplained events and later wrote a book expanding on this theory.
9. Christopher Columbus Sightings
Reports from 1492 state that during his voyage across the Atlantic, Christopher Columbus spotted bizarre sightings in the exact area of the Triangle. He reported that his compass was malfunctioning and he saw stars moving across the sky above. He also reported an eerie glowing fireball that shot out of the water and a candle-like flame bobbing up and down, making several disappearances and reappearances over the night.
10. Devil's Triangle
The term "Devil's Triangle" has been used to describe this part of the world due to its evil occurrences. People have said for decades that the Devil frequents this location and drowns vessels with his power. Some victims have made it out alive, sharing their unexplainable experiences of electronic fog like a time-warping cloud tunnel.
